Carpet installation procedure

Installation of your own wall to wall carpet is not an easy job in that it can be hard on your back and even knees and there are instances where you may not get it right. In other words, carpet installation literally is not “rocket science” you have to follow the right procedures for it to be right.

Clean your floor

You have to ensure that your floor is very clean, therefore thoroughly vacuum your floor to get rid of dust among other debris then allow the floor to dry before installing the carpet. If you intend to install the carpet on either vinyl or hardwood floor, make sure that you install tack strips around the perimeter of your room and you have to ensure that they are tightly butted against each other.

Lay the under pad

The main purpose of the under pad is to ensure that your carpet is well protected; therefore you have to ensure that the under pad is tightly laid along the inside edge of the tack strips; if your flooring is concrete, you can use bead of glue to hold the under pad tightly.

Laying the carpet

In order to properly install your carpet, you have to commence with the pieces that overlap the edges of the floor. The overlay can also be trimmed so that your carpet fits properly. To get the exact length, measure the longest and shortest points in the room and use those measurements to trim your carpet.

Seaming

After cutting the carpet, you can comfortably seam it through the room but you have to ensure that the pile is running uniformly in all directions. After laying the carpet on the floor, use the seaming iron to firmly butt the carpet along the edges.

Attaching the carpet

You can attach the carpet on the edges using a knee kicker in that you place the kicker near the wall and then drive your knee towards its padded end. The main purpose of this step is to straighten the carpet and hold it place. You can also use a carpet stretcher to straighten your carpet especially along the edges. Make sure that you work around the room by stretching and straightening the carpet from all edges.

You can finish up the carpet installation procedure by using a stair tool to tuck the carpet into the gaps between the tack less strips and the wall.
